Los Angeles police said they arrested and charged a man Wednesday who is accused of attacking two Asians in unconnected, unprovoked incidents.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it took Angel Sanchez Jr., 29, of Santa Barbara into custody on assault charges Wednesday after deputies located the suspect in Oxnard.
Authorities said the attacks took place Tuesday in the L.A. suburb of Calabasas.
Boxing coach Tyler Cochran told KCAL-TV that the first victim was one of his students, a 14-year-old boy.
“He was a little bit bloody,” Mr. Cochran told the station. “His T-shirt was kind of torn. He had abrasions on his body, from where the guy had slammed him and roughed him up.”
The coach said his student was sucker punched, but the boy was able to fight the attacker off after that.
Shortly after, police received reports of a separate attack on an Asian man in his 60s who was sucker punched while pushing his 10-month-old granddaughter in a stroller.
The second attack was caught on a nearby home surveillance video.
The clip shows a heavy-set man parking his minivan in a driveway before getting out and striking the Asian man on the left side of his head from behind.
The force of the blow knocked the victim to the ground and caused the stroller to flip over. The heavy-set man then returns to his car and drives off.
