A 29-year-old woman named Camila Rodriguez is being indicted for targeting at least six people of Asian descent in unprovoked attacks on the Upper West Side. These attacks took place between March 16 and May 11 between West 104th and West 110th streets.
The first attack took place on March 16 at about 9:23 p.m., when Rodriguez kicked a woman of Korean descent in the back of the leg as she walked toward the stairs leading into the subway station at the southwest corner of Cathedral Parkway and Broadway.
On March 22 at approximately 9:40 p.m., she pulled a Chinese woman’s hair on 108th between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave. After the victim turned around and spoke to her in Mandarin, Rodriguez slapped her in the face and continued punching her after they both reportedly fell to the ground. Bystanders approached and Rodriguez fled the scene.

At about 9:00 p.m. on April 8, Rodriguez approached a man while he was waiting with two friends for a table at a restaurant on Amsterdam Avenue between 106th and West 107th streets. All three individuals were of Chinese descent. Rodriguez pulled the hair of the victim’s friend. The victim then pushed her off of him before Rodriguez pushed her electric scooter towards him, bruising his leg. She then tried to attack a waitress, who also appeared to be of Asian descent. The victim pushed Rodriguez away, and then she struck him with a semi-closed fist.
Rodriguez targeted a Filipino woman on April 21 at about 5:10 p.m. This attack took place at 104th and Broadway, where the victim was walking home. Rodriguez approached her from the side, grabbed her hair, pulled her to the ground and punched her in the face multiple times.
Rodriguez spat at a Chinese person on April 27 at about 7:30 p.m. This happened on 110th and Broadway, and the spit landed on the victim’s jacket and neck.
The last attack on record happened on May 11 at 109th and Amsterdam Ave, when Rodriguez started yelling and cursing at a Korean man smoking a cigarette. She berated him for apparently looking at her and smoking near her car. She then hit him with the back of her hand, knocking his glasses off his face and bruising him.
Rodriguez is facing multiple counts of Assault as a Hate Crime and Aggravated Harassment.
