The threat of physical assault is very real -- and can be terrifying -- but it goes deeper than that, said Multnomah County Commissioner Susheela Jayapal.
“All of us are carrying the emotional and psychological hurt,” Jayapal said at a Thursday rally organized by Oregon Rises Above Hate to draw attention to recent anti-Asian attacks in Portland. “We’re all carrying the knowledge that there are people who hate us simply for being who we are, simply for being Asian.”
