On the Menu: The Twisted Indian and Asian fusion concepts debut - St Pete Catalyst

Restaurant concepts merging traditional cuisines from different cultures to an expansion of coffee shops are all in the inner happenings of St. Petersburg’s growing food scene. Here’s a taste of the latest restaurants and foodie news for the area:

The Twisted Indian opens

The Twisted Indian held its soft opening May 3 in the Grand Central District of St. Pete at 2639 Central Ave.

The Twisted Indian initially started as a food truck business in 2015.

The main menu items at the brick-and-mortar restaurant range from Bollywood bowls with chicken tikka masala and lamb, to tofu tacos and yogi fries to its naanwhich, which is made with naan bread. There are also various sides including spicy cauliflower and chickpeas.

The restaurant is closed on Mondays.

The Blend to open a fourth location

The Blend Coffee and Wine shop, known for its flight of unique coffee flavors, will open another location.

The Blend, founded in 2006 by Stacha Madsen, has grown from a small coffee stand in Seattle to a full-fledged evolving brand in St. Petersburg with three locations and plans to add a fourth.

The three existing shops include 1211 4th St. N., formerly used as a cycle shop; 490 1st Ave. S. inside the Tampa Bay Times building;  and one at  2760 34th St. N., which was previously home to a sandwich shop.

The fourth location will be at 6730 Central Ave., previously occupied by Checkers. The new shop is expected to open soon.

Unlike The Blend’s other shops, customers will not be able to go inside the new restaurant.

However, Madsen will still design the space to match the aesthetic carried throughout the existing shops – and the new location will have plenty of outdoor seating.

New concept to debut downtown

The team behind Noble Crust and Fat Beet Farm will debut a new concept in downtown St. Pete.

Noble Crust announced on Facebook that it, alongside longtime partner Fat Beet Farm, will open its new concept – Noble Tavern Off The Farm – in the Tru by Hilton Downtown hotel on Central Avenue.

This will add to the Off The Cuff Concepts restaurant portfolio, which includes the existing Noble Crust and Fat Beet Farm Kitchen and Bakery.

Noble Tavern will blend the atmosphere of a traditional old-world tavern into a modern design.

The new sister concept is expected to open in 2023.

Seafood restaurant with a coffee shop opens

Cap’s, a coffee shop, bar and seafood restaurant all combined into one concept, is open for business.

The coffee/seafood/liquor bar-infused restaurant has opened at 226 1st Ave. N.

The coffee shop operations are run by owners of the Coffee Ground, who previously operated a shop in Treasure Island.

The coffee shop has a full liquor bar where the bartenders create caffeine-infused cocktails and other concoctions.

The main restaurant specializes in seafood, with a raw oyster bar and steamer bar filled with mussels, scallops and shrimp.

The concept was developed by longtime commercial real estate agent Jon LaBudde and Jeff Knight, who owns the Jannus Live concert venue and other venues through his company, Knight Global.

Asian fusion restaurant makes a grand entrance

The Green Pagoda that blends Asian and American cuisines has been added to St. Pete’s diverse food scene roster.

Restaurateur Sean Thongsiri, who is behind the Asian restaurant Mangosteen on Central Avenue, opened the Green Pagoda this month at 7900 4th St. N.

The menu features dishes such as pad Thai, dumplings, fried rice and a long sushi lineup. The American dishes include lobster risotto, filet mignon and grilled fish, which is drizzled with coconut curry.
