Rivalry Returns: Mizzou Takes on No. 8 Kansas in HyVee Hoops Border Showdown - University of Missouri Athletics - Mizzou Athletics

COLUMBIA, Mo. — After nine years, the storied men's basketball rivalry between Missouri and Kansas returns, Saturday, Dec. 11 inside Allen Fieldhouse. The matchup between the former conference foes will tip at 2:15 p.m. on ESPN with Chris Spatola and Mizzou alum, Tom Hart, on the call.

MIZZOU HEADLINES

  • Kobe Brown became the first Tiger to record three-straight double-doubles since DeMarre Carroll in 2009 with an 11-rebound, 11-point performance Tuesday evening.
  • Mizzou is coming off a 28-point win against Eastern Illinois, with the Tigers offense clicking and shooting a season-high 51 percent from the field.
  • The Tigers rank 19th nationally in offensive rebounds per game (13.67), led by Ronnie DeGray III who is second in the SEC with 3.22 per game.
  • Amari Davis has become a steady scoring threat for the Tigers, recording double-digits in six-consecutive games.
  • Missouri had four players record double-digits against the Panthers, including 12 second-half points from DaJuan Gordon.
  • Tuesday showed the potential of Mizzou's freshman, highlighted by Anton Brookshire who recorded a career-high eight points with three assists and a pair of three-pointers.

THE SERIES

  • Saturday will be the first meeting between the two programs as non-conference opponents.
  • The game marks the 269th in the all-time series, the most frequent opponent in Mizzou history.
  • Missouri and Kansas split the pair of meetings in 2012, each taking a contest on their home court.
  • Kansas leads the all-time series, 173-95, including a hefty 88-33 record in Lawrence.
  • There has been a total of seven overtime games between the two teams, including the most recent contest on Feb. 25, 2012 in Lawrence.

SCOUTING KANSAS

  • Kansas comes into Saturday's game with a No. 8 ranking in the latest AP poll, making them Missouri's first ranked opponent of the season.
  • The Jayhawks lone loss came to Dayton in neutral territory at the ESPN Events Invitational. Kansas has wins over Michigan State, Iona and St. John's.  
  • Kansas ranks sixth in the country with a 51.8 field goal percentage, led by Christian Braun who is top-25 after shooting 62.8 percent through the first eight games of the season.
  • Ochai Agbaji, a Naismith Trophy Watch List candidate, leads the Jayhawks with an average of 22.6 points per game.

UP NEXT

Mizzou returns to Columbia for a Saturday matchup against Utah, Dec. 18. Tip is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on SEC Network. The game will be Missouri's annual "Teddy Bear Toss" with special holiday guests in attendance.
