Gators In The NFL: Week 8 - Florida Gators

asianpostmedia.blogspot.com
GAINESVILLE -- As the midway point of the NFL season nears, several young Gator defensive stars continued to prove their worth.

Defensive Highlights
Another week, another sack for Texans star pass rusher Jonathan Greenard. What else is new?

The second-year defensive end packed the stat sheet one again, finishing with three tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, one sack, and one pass defended against the Los Angeles Rams.

Greenard now has seven sacks on the season, good for seventh-best in the league. He's played in just six games.

Despite his tremendous success, Greenard knows there's still work to be done.

"It's a solid start," Greenard said. "I feel like I've got a long way to go polish up a few things technique-wise. It's just going to keep going up from here."

His teammates and coaches had plenty of good things to say.

"Jon's a dog," fellow defensive end Ross Blacklock said. Head Coach David Culley called Greenard "a bright spot" this season.

In New Orleans, third-year defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson continued to make plays for the Saints. Gardner-Johnson recorded six tackles, defended one pass, and intercepted a Tom Brady-pass to help knock-off the defending Super Bowl

Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

San Francisco 49ers fourth-year safety Marcell Harris had a career day Sunday. Harris finished with seven total tackles and his first career sack, helping the 49ers take down the Bears 33-22.

Offensive Highlights
Van Jefferson's breakout season continues. A second-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, Jefferson caught three passes for 88 yards Sunday.

Jefferson made a splash with a game-changing 68-yard reception in the third quarter to help the now 7-1 Rams runaway from the Texans 38-22.

Jefferson now has 24 receptions for 392 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Special Teams Highlights
Evan McPherson has yet to miss an extra point in his career. The Bengals rookie kicker is now 26-for-26 on extra points and 10-for-13 on field goals after going 4-for-4 on extra points and 1-for-1 on field goals Sunday.

His 26 made extra points are good for fourth-best in the NFL.
