Jones Named to Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 List - Florida Gators

FORT WORTH, Texas - After a career-high performance in week six, Emory Jones was named to the Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 List, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced Monday.

Jones recorded his first-career game of three-plus passing touchdowns, throwing four touchdown passes and also setting a career high with 273 yards passing. He became the 13th Gators quarterback to throw four touchdown passes in a game since 1996.

His 273 passing yards vs. Vanderbilt also surpassed 1,000 passing yards for the 2021 season marking his first-career 1,000-yard passing season. Jones' four passing touchdowns was the most by an SEC quarterback this week and tied for 6th in the country. He ranked fifth in the FBS and first in the SEC with a 218.8 passer rating this week. 

Any player named to a Great 8 list during the season who was not previously named to the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award's Preseason Watch List is officially added to the Midseason Watch List and becomes eligible for consideration for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. The Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2021 will be announced on Oct. 25. and sixteen semifinalists will be named on Nov. 8. The Foundation will announce the three finalists two weeks later (Nov. 22) as the 2021 Davey O'Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN on Dec. 9.
