The Cardinal Countdown: 8 Days Until Kickoff - Card Chronicle

#8 Tyler Harrell

Class: RS Sophomore

Ht/Wt: 6-0/194

Position: Wide Receiver

Hometown: Miami, FL

Twitter: @EasyMoneyTy_

Thoughts: I understand the significance and importance behind getting players that are “fast”, but I think the “speed city” initiative burned me a bit a few years ago as we got a couple absolute studs from that group but also had some guys that never really panned out and would have been a better fit running the 4x100 instead of playing wideout. Obviously if given the choice I’d love to have a guy be fast rather than not, but that shouldn’t be the top line item on the resume if you know what I’m saying. Tyler Harrell has been in the program for a few seasons, and I honestly thought he fit that description as well. The coaches this off-season though are convincing me that may not be the case.

Harrell, if you haven’t heard, ran a hand clocked sub 4.2s forty time earlier this year which would be the fastest forty time in NFL combine history. He’s got burners for sure, but his limited participation so far was a concern. The staff friendly reminded us this season that two of the better receivers the Cards have had on campus the last decade took a good amount of the reps and opportunities the last few years. There’s only so many balls to go around (clip it). With Tutu and Dez off to the league it’s open season for guys like Harrell to snatch up those chances and Tyler has improved significantly, per the staff, with his route running, getting in the playbook, and working on his game overall. While Marshall, Smith, and Watkins look to be the leaders in the clubhouse at the position the Cards had sixteen players catch a pass last season, and if we come even close to replicating those numbers in 2021 Harrell will absolutely be involved in putting up some crooked numbers this year.

I’m always down for a menacing laugh if the guy is playing for my team. Let’s get crazy up in here, Ty Ty.

#8 Henry Bryant

Class: Freshman

Ht/Wt: 5-11/275

Position: Defensive Line

Hometown: Delray, FL

Twitter: @HenryBryantIII1

Thoughts: While Henry came in last year knowing he had a bit of an uphill battle to climb as a mid-year enrollee stuck behind some experienced guys on the line, I was a bit surprised the staff went full “Where’s Waldo” with Bryant the entire season as he didn’t play a single snap, at least not that I’m aware of. So in a season where eligibility is free ninety-nine, you were out of the conference championship hunt, and you had games with only 4-5 eligible lineman why did we not see Bryant?

The honest answer is I have no idea, but my pure speculative answer that we all love to provide is that Bryant just wasn’t ready. Maybe there were some health/COVID issues we are not privy too but Satterfield never seemed to bring up Bryant when talking about health issues or protocol concerns and often times he was just listed as unavailable week to week. Maybe there was an injury I don’t know about, which is possible, but seems like it would have been mentioned over the course of the eleven weeks during the season. Short term I have no concerns as Bryant is still a freshman looking to learn and develop but forecasting into 2022 and beyond I see some talented lineman being recruited and getting some mentions during the offseason while mum is still the word for Henry. I hope he’s a quiet assassin who is just going about his work, getting better each day, and maybe even surprises us with some this PT year. If not, I think the window is still open for a young man with a great push and good strength to get a shot down the road but it will be a challenge. In a microwave society where everything has to be “right now” I’m certainly not giving up on Henry or his development, but would like to see him get some reps or at least some praise from the staff in the coming weeks to feel better about where he needs to be.

My man is cruising this 405 likes he’s heading to Long Beach on a Sunday afternoon. Light work.
