Terrier Twelve - #8: Men's Ice Hockey Qualifies for NCAA Tournament - Boston University Athletics

asianpostmedia.blogspot.com
Returning for a 13th year, GoTerriers.com will once again count down the top 12 achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Tuesday and Friday as we reveal this year's Terrier Twelve.

Coming in at No. 8 in this year's Terrier 12 is the men's ice hockey team qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.

The Terriers began the year by winning nine of their first 11 games, including a sweep of eventual national champion UMass and a victory over No. 1 Boston College. Ranked as high as eighth in the national polls, BU earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the 37th time in program history and has now participated in five of the last six national tournaments.

For the second straight season, David Farrance was a First Team All-American and a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in men's college hockey. He led the Terriers with 11 assists and was tied with Jay O'Brien for the team lead in points with 16. A two-time Hockey First Team All-Star, Farrance's 1.45 points-per-game average ranked first nationally among defensemen this season and fourth overall. He was named Hockey East Player of the Month for January after putting up 14 points (4g, 10a) in just six contests.

Drew Commesso and Luke Tuch were both named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team after terrific debut seasons. Tuch, a two-time Hockey East Rookie of the Week, was the lone unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team after tallying 10 points in the regular season on six goals, including two game-winners, and four assists. Commesso posted a 6-1-1 regular-season record between the pipes in eight starts. He had had six performances of 30 saves or more and recorded a .923 save percentage along with a 2.75 goals-against average during the regular season. The talented netminder won bronze with the United States at the IIHF Men's World Championship in June.

In addition to their on-ice success, the Terriers were terrific in the classroom during the 2020-21 academic year. BU placed a program-record 14 players on the Hockey East All-Academic Team, marking the second straight year they boasted a record number of honorees.
