FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - A family was reunited with their dog after he went missing eight years ago in Fort Wayne.

Cara Seiler and Kailey Kuntz say they got their dog Kemo when he was just a puppy and two years later, he disappeared.

"We never really stopped looking, we always hoped, always looking at missing pet posts,” Seiler said.

Tuesday, they got a very exciting call from Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control.

“You need to called Fort Wayne Animal care and control, they have Kemo,” Seiler said. “I was like what? They have Kemo?”

Eight years later, they were reunited.

“Kaliey and I were crying the whole way from Auburn to Fort Wayne,” Seiler said. “It was surreal. When we walked in the door, he knew it was us.”

Holly Pasquenelli from Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control says Kemo was brought in as a stray and they scanned him for a microchip.

“It is just so important to get your pets microchipped, because it never falls off, it never leaves,” she said.  “In my entire career, this is the longest reunion that we’ve been able to have.”

Seiler says in those eight years they began their own animal rescue center called Canine Haven Rescue in Waterloo, Indiana.

She says they microchip all of their animal rescues so that a family can one day reunite with their pet, just like they did.
