Asian-American soccer tournament returns to Garland for round two - The Dallas Morning News

The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex’s second annual Asian-American soccer tournament is scheduled to take place this weekend in Garland.

The tournament is the largest Asian-American soccer tournament in the U.S., according to the city, and will include 32 teams from 15 states.

The inaugural tournament took place in 2019. The event’s second year was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19, according to a post from the tournament’s Facebook group.

Hosted by DFW Buddhist Temple, Vietnam United FC, Garland Parks & Recreation and Visit Garland, the free event will take place on Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11 at Winters Park, 1330 Spring Creek Drive.

The tournament features categories for teams with players over 18 and over 40, with cash prizes ranging from $200 to $2,000.

Asian Americans make up 11.1% of Garland’s population, which includes over 12,000 residents of Vietnamese origin, according to data from the US Census Bureau.
