ELKINS — Play in the Little League District 8 tourney for 9-10-year-olds (minors) and 11-12-year-olds (majors) gets underway today at River Bend Park.
The 8-10-year-olds will take to the field this evening as Summersville battles Braxton County at 6 p.m., followed by Elkins vs. Tygart Valley at approximately 8:15 p.m.
The two winners meet at 8 p.m. Saturday, with an elimination game set for 3 p.m.
Another elimination game is scheduled to be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
In the 11-12-year-old tourney, Belington meets Tygart Valley at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by Braxton County vs. Summersville at 5:30 p.m.
The winner between Belington and Tygart Valley faces host Elkins at 5 p.m. Sunday.
An elimination game is set for 8 p.m. Sunday, while a winner’s backet matchup takes place at 6 p.m. Monday.
The tourney is scheduled to run through Thursday, if necessary.
The champion and runner-up advances to the state tourney.
The 9-10 state tourney is scheduled to be played in Shinnston-Fairmont on July 8 and the 11-12s in Lewisburg on July 15.
Both dates, which are subject to change, are the reporting dates.
Members of the Elkins 11-12-year-old squad include Dyer Barger, Brayden Biller, Braden Cooper, Lincoln Fletcher, Michael Harding, Rilan Hill, Trevor Hogue, Nijah Howell, Ryan James, Kaden Marcum, Ethan Riggleman, Owen Stanley and Trent Stone.
Tygart Valley team members include Preston Smith, Owen Bell, Anthony Kiley, Quintin Lewis, Sylas Lewis, Caleb Teter, Bryson Taylor, Destinee Watson, Desiree Watson, Drew Arbogast, Ryland McCune, Levi Slawter and Hannah Cabaniss.
Belington team members are Landyn Carpenter, Braxton Carpenter, Slaton Harris, Quade Frey, Jacob Ogden, Zander Godden, Josiah Frye, Kason Loftin, Ayden Thorn and Kaleb Corder.
The Elkins 9-10-year-old squad includes Elijah Bennett, Brady Cogar, Elliot Graham, Jordan Hamrick, Troy Jackson, Caden Kreps, Cameron Lambert, Hank Morales, Aiden Pennington, Zachariah Thompson, Julius Watson, Liam Wegman and Grayson Young.
Tygart Valley’s roster includes Gunner Day, Corban Oldaker, Cooper Markley, Holden Sharp, Tyler McAtee, Connor Rose, Remington Warner, Joseph Gooding, Jacob Riddle, Brentley Watson, Jace Blackburn and Bentlee Johns.
