PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's and women's rowing teams hit the water for the 82nd Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday afternoon, with the Explorers advancing a pair of boats to grand finals. The highlight of the afternoon came when the women's novice eight took home silver, marking the first time a La Salle women's boat has earned a medal at Dad Vails in at least two decades.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• In the first race of the day for the Explorers, the women's second varsity four took second in its heat to advance to the final. 
• The foursome finished in 8:17.28, earning wins over Lafayette and Fordham.
• Five more crews competed in the heat rounds, with the men's varsity eight defeating Washington College and closing in a time of 6:13.22.
• The women's novice eight, comprised of Madison Albanese, Kate Vasey, Hailey Minter, Caleigh McMenamin-Martinez, Estefani Tretto Ayres, Sarah Reed, Avery Morris, Lily Henshaw, and coxswain Ava Grace Oronzi, got off to a good start in its first appearance of the afternoon, a grand final.
• The group led through the first 800 meters, and battled throughout to earn silver.
• The women's second varsity four also hung tough in its grand final race, closing 18 seconds faster than a crew from Lafayette.
• The men's heavyweight four advanced to the petite final and finished third, defeating boats from Manhattan and Franklin & Marshall.
• In the final race of the day, the women's varsity four soundly defeated Saint Joseph's, Fordham, and Loyola (Md.) to close in second place of its petite final and eighth overall.
