Project 8:46 is a video observance and reflection of the impact of George Floyd's murder and the civil uprisings across the country that followed. Guided by our mission to document the lived experience of New Yorkers, the Museum aims through this project to center and amplify the voices of young New Yorkers as they make sense of a momentous past year in their own lives—and the life of their city and nation.
Project 8:46 is an edited collage of crowdsourced responses featuring the reflections of NYC youth. Project 8:46 is presented in conjunction with the Museum's ongoing exhibition Activist New York. The piece is called "Project 8:46" and has a run time of eight minutes and forty-six seconds because that is the amount of time former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was captured on a cellphone video kneeling on George Floyd's neck before he died.
