asianpostmedia.blogspot.com
COLUMBIA, Missouri – The UNI team took on in-state rival Iowa State in game 1 of the NCAA Regional, defeating the Cyclones by rule in the fifth inning 8-0.

The game was originally scheduled for 1 pm but did not start until 6 pm due to rain delays. The delay didn't slow down the Panthers, getting out to a quick 4-0 lead from a 2 RBI double from Brooke Snider and a 2 RBI single from Emmy Wells in the top of the second inning.

Madison Parks added an RBI single in the third inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Sammey Bunch made history in the third, hitting her 59th career home run becoming the Missouri Valley Conference all-time home run leader. Bunch batted in 3 runs to move the Panthers out to an 8-0 lead after the top of the 3rd inning.

The Cyclones were held scoreless through the fifth inning, ending the game early. The Panthers are now 2-1 against the Cyclones in 2021. Kailyn Packard received the start in the circle for UNI, throwing all 5 innings, facing 17 batters and striking out 3. The Cyclones finished the game with 1 hit and 1 walk.

Sammey Bunch made the most of her at bats, going 2-2 with 3 RBI. Emmy Wells and Brooke Snider both went 1-3 with 2 RBI while Madison Parks went 1-1 with 1 RBI. Taylor Hogan and Kamryn Shaffer both finished 1-3 at the plate.

The Panthers will now play at 1 pm on Saturday May 22, taking on the winner of the Missouri/Illinois-Chicago game.
