Mason, Ohio -- Trailing 7-4 entering the bottom of the ninth, Creighton Baseball delivered another walk-off win in the opening game of the BIG EAST Tournament besting Seton Hall 8-7 on Thursday, May 27.

The win moved the Bluejays into the winners bracket against the top seed, Connecticut on Friday, May 28 at 5:30 pm (CT). Creighton also climbed to 24-13 on the season, while the Pirates fell to 23-24 overall. Seton Hall will face Xavier in an elimination game at 1:30 pm (CT) on Friday.

The Pirates jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in each of the first two innings, getting an RBI triple in the first from Matt Toke and and RBI single by Jerry Huntzinger in the second.

Creighton answered with four runs on one hit in the fifth. Freshman Nolan Clifford and senior Parker Upton drew walks to start the frame. Sophomore Andrew Meggs laid down a bunt that Pirate catcher Huntzinger threw into left field trying to cut down Clifford. The error put Creighton on the board and runners at second and third.

Following an intentional pass to Bluejay freshman Alan Roden, senior Ryan Mantle bounced a two-run single up the middle to give Creighton a 3-2 edge. Later in the frame Creighton plated its fourth run of the inning via a sacrifice fly from junior David Vilches.

Creighton starter and BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year, Dylan Tebrake, took the Bluejays into the sixth inning, giving way to sophomore Paul Bergstrom for the final two outs of the sixth. The Bluejay southpaw gave up a run in the seventh, but Creighton closer John Sakowski took a 4-3 lead into the eighth.

Seton Hall continued to chip away, plating a run in the eighth on an RBI single from Jonathan Lueders to knot things up at 4-4.

In the top of the ninth the Pirates plated three runs on four hits, touching Sakowski for a pair and one on sophomore Ryan Windham.

Down 7-4 the Creighton offense loaded the bags in the final trip to the dish on walks to Meggs, Roden and Mantle. One out later senior Dax Roper sliced a two-run double to left-center to make it 7-6, then Vilches lifted his second sac fly of the game to tie things up at 7-7.

Junior Will Hanafan worked a 1-1 count before slicing an RBI single to center for the walk-off win.

Windham collected the win (3-0), allowing one run on two hits in one inning of relief. Seton Hall closer Sean Miller took the loss (0-2), his second to the Bluejays, as he surrendered two tuns on two hits and one walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Mantle led Creighton's offense with three hits and two RBI on the day.
