LOWELL, Mass. – Sophomore attacker Izzy Liquori (Agawam, Mass.) scored four goals, while classmate Abby McLaughlin (Walpole, Mass.) tallied two goals and one assist, but it wasn't enough as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team fell, 15-8 to UAlbany on Sunday afternoon at Cushing Field.

All eight goals were scored by members of the sophomore class, with Anna Bauter (Dexter, N.Y.) and Grace Hansen (Stamford, Conn.) notching the remaining two tallies. Junior Samantha Blair (West Islip, N.Y.) and rookie Megan Brockbank (Bayport, N.Y.) each added a helper on the day.

Shots were 29-25 in favor of UAlbany, while UMass Lowell outperformed the visitors 14-11 in draw controls. The Great Danes won the ground ball battle 19-15, and the River Hawks went 11-of-14 on clearing attempts.

The River Hawks fell behind 2-0 as UAlbany opened action with a goal in the first minute of play followed by a free position attempt at 25:36. Although, McLaughlin would go unassisted just 30 seconds after to put UMass Lowell on the board and end the Great Danes' hot start.

Answering back with goals of their own, both sides would trade shots over the next ten minutes, with Bauter making a run down the left side followed by Liquori's first tally of the day on a free position to trim the deficit 4-3. UAlbany fought its way back to extend their jump to 7-3, but Liquori would grab a feed from McLaughlin to bury one deep in the final eight seconds, giving the home team a bit of momentum heading into the second set.

With a man-up advantage to start the second, Hansen would find her opportunity from Blair, bringing the score within one for the third time, 7-6. Although the fight was short lived as the Great Danes scored the next 8-of-10 goals to pull away by a score of 15-8. The two final River Hawk points came from the sticks of Liquori and McLaughlin.

Sophomore Layton Nass (Manhasset, N.Y.) won a career-high seven draw controls, while senior defender Gabby Torain (Glen Burnie, Md.) snagged a team-leading four ground balls. Newbie netminder Mackenzie Brown (Southington, Conn.) took the loss in net for the River Hawks, making seven saves in the first half with one stop in the second.

Prior to the game Gabby Torain, Hannah Rose (Framingham, Mass.), Kristi King (Severn, Md.), Caitlin Sanborn (Chelmsford, Mass.), Katie Welch (North Reading, Mass.) and Hana Caster (North Attleboro, Mass.) were honored with a special Senior Day ceremony.

Up next, the River Hawks will head to Hartford on Saturday, April 24. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
