No. 8 Duke Welcomes Virginia Tech Saturday - Duke University - GoDuke.com

DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 8 Duke women's lacrosse team (8-5, 3-5 ACC) welcomes ACC foe Virginia Tech for the second time this spring to Koskinen Stadium Saturday, April 17. Opening draw is slated for 1 p.m., on ACCNX.
 
OPENING DRAW
Saturday marks the 25th meeting between the two programs and they previously met in February this spring as Duke secured a 12-8 victory to open ACC action at Koskinen Stadium.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Twelve different Blue Devils notched points Tuesday evening as the eighth-ranked Duke women's lacrosse team secured an 18-6 victory over Liberty in non-conference action at Koskinen Stadium.
 
Maddie Jenner (4), Caroline DeBellis (3), Katie DeSimone (2), Olivia Carner (2), Catriona Barry (2), Gabby Rosenzweig (1), Katie Cronin (1), Eva Greco (1), Abby Landry (1) and Olivia Rubin (1) all found the back of the cage for the Blue Devils while Rosenzweig (4), Catherine Cordrey (2), Cronin (1), DeBellis (1), DeSimone (1) and Maddie McCorkle (1) and Kay Conway (1) assisted over half of Duke's goals.
 
Duke goalkeeper Sophia LeRose recorded six saves in the first half and ended the contest with seven (.636 save percentage) and just four goals against (10.35 GAA).
 
Duke won the battle of the draw 19-7 with Maddie Jenner continuing to lead the way with 12. Following her performance Tuesday, the Annapolis, Md., native now owns 309 career draw controls.
 
Defensively, Kay Conway and Katie Cosgrove paced Duke on the ground ball front with three each with Conway adding four caused turnovers.
 
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
Saturday marks the 25th meeting between the two programs and the two previously met in February this spring as Duke secured a 12-8 victory to open ACC action at Koskinen Stadium.
 
Virginia Tech enters this weekend 4-8 and 0-6 in conference action but are coming off a 10-5 victory over No. 19 Elon on Wednesday.
 
The Hokies are led by Sarah Lubnow with 41 points (17 goals, 24 assists), Paige Petty (37 points) and Emma Crooks (30 points).
 
Virginia Tech is second in the ACC in ground balls/game (17.17) and fourth in caused turnovers/game (8.75).
 
Goalkeeper Angie Benson owns a 12.76 GAA and a .371 save percentage.
 
FAN INFORMATION
Due to the impact of COVID-19, Duke University will begin its spring sport program seasons without spectators at home events. Contests played on Duke's campus will include essential game management personnel and broadcast media. Traditional parking lots used by fans on game day will be closed.
 
UP NEXT
Duke will close out the regular season Friday, April 23 against No. 1 North Carolina at 5 p.m. Friday also marks senior day for several Blue Devils.
