CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 8 Duke women's lacrosse team dropped a narrow 17-15 decision at No. 4 Boston College Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

With the setback, the Blue Devils drop to 6-5 and 2-5 in the ACC as the Eagles improve to 8-1 and 4-1 in conference play.

The Blue Devils were led by senior Catriona Barry with four goals to tie her career high while Katie Cronin and Catherine Cordrey each added three goals. Caroline DeBellis (2), Katie DeSimone (1), Olivia Carner (1) and Maddie Jenner (1) rounded out the Blue Devil's offense. DeSimone also dished two assists.

The Eagles outshot the Blue Devils 20-13 in the first half, but it was Duke who held a 9-8 advantage after the first 30 minutes.

Cronin put Duke on the board first with a free-position goal less than 1:30 into the contest just before the Eagles responded to even the score. Tied up at 2-2 at 26:23, Duke added two unanswered goals to go up 4-2 as Gabby Rosenzweig ran behind the cage to find a wide open DeBellis for Duke's third score (3-2).

Goalkeeper Sophia LeRose recorded two saves in goal to help set up the offense as DeSimone found the back of the cage for her 12th goal of her rookie campaign (4-2).

The Eagles capitalized on a man-up opportunity (19:06) to cut into Duke's lead. Minutes later, Jenner set a pick to create room for Barry's second goal of the day (5-3) before contributing a goal of her own off a nice spin move straight toward the goal at 16:58, giving Duke a three-goal lead. Boston College would add on five additional goals, four of them from Charlotte  North, as Cronin added two and another from Barry before the half, which Duke led 9-8.

LeRose's stingy defense helped set up Duke's offense with six saves in the first half.

Boston College came out after the half and went a 4-0 run to take its first lead of the game (9-12). Barry put an end to Duke's offensive slump at 17:37 with a free-position goal before DeSimone found DeBellis for her second goal at 16:03, cutting the Eagle lead to just one (11-12). The Eagles tacked on three scores in under three minutes (12-15), but the Blue Devils kept fighting back as Cordrey and Carner found the back of the net to pull within one once again. Boston College added two more goals down the stretch to win the contest, 17-15.

Defensively for Duke, Callie Humphrey, Maddie Johnston and Cronin each caused two turnovers while Humphrey also collected two ground balls. The Eagles won the battle at the draw despite Jenner leading both teams with eight. Both squads were nearly flawless on clears as Duke completed 13-of-15.

Boston College was led by North with six goals.

Duke will travel to Louisville, Ky., to take on No. 17 Louisville Thursday, April 8 at 7 p.m., on ACC Network.
