Base Knocks:

  • Texas enters this weekend with a 5-18 all-time record against No. 1-ranked teams. The Longhorns did win their last such match-up by recording a 6-4 (8 inn.) win at No. 1 UCLA back on Feb. 27, 2020.
  • The top two offenses in the nation by batting average will match-up this weekend in Norman as Oklahoma tops NCAA Division I at .453, while the Longhorns rate second at .379. OU and UT also rate 1-2 in the Big 12 in average, scoring, HR's-per-game, on-base & slugging percentage.
  • Texas has started 6-0 in Big 12 Conference play for the first time since 2018 and for only the sixth time in program history (2002, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2018, 2021).
  • Sophomore pitcher Shea O'Leary hasn't lost a decision in the circle since May 25, 2019, against No. 5 Alabama in the decisive third game of the NCAA Tuscaloosa Super Regional. Since then, the Castaic, Calif., native has posted a perfect 15-0 record over 22 starts with 11 complete games, seven solo shutouts and 115 K's over 133 innings.
  • The 2010 Longhorns set the school single-season record with 88 HR's (had 48 after 34 games). This year's Texas squad is well ahead of that pace with 58 HR's after 34 games. UT's 58 HR's this season are already tied for the fourth-most in a single campaign in program history (2009).
  • Texas is currently riding a season-long, 14-game winning streak. This is already the third winning skein of at least seven games for the 2021 Horns (streaks of 10, seven & 14 games).
  • The Longhorns have now hit multiple HR's in a game on 17 separate occasions this season. Texas' season-high was five HR's in wins at Houston (March 3) and against Tarleton State (March 13).
  • O'Leary was honored for her dominant weekend against Texas Tech as the Big 12 Conference's Pitcher of the Week. The 6-2 hurler went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 18 K's over 14 innings during the sweep of the Red Raiders.
  • Senior outfielder Kaitlyn Washington is within striking distance of a long-standing Texas career record. The Humble, Texas, native has 47 doubles, just two from surpassing Jodi Reeves' (1997-2000) program record mark of 48 doubles that has stood for more than 20 years.
  • No player in Texas history has hit more HR's over the first 34 games of the year than senior Shannon Rhodes has in 2021 (13 HR's). The closest to the mark were Tallie Thrasher (10 HR's in 34 games in 2007) and Lindsey Stephens (2014).
  • Over the past two seasons, Texas has posted a 55-6 overall record. Five of those six losses have come by just one run with the lone multiple-tally defeat occurring at No. 13 LSU on March 6, 2021, 7-2. Texas hasn't lost at home by more than one run since April 20, 2019, against Oklahoma (L, 2-9). That's a stretch of 48 home contests.
  • Senior outfielder Shannon Rhodes and junior catcher/third baseman Mary Iakopo love extra bases as 32 of their 72 combined hits this season have gone for extra bases (44%). Of Rhodes' 39 total hits, 18 have gone for extra bases (four doubles, one triple, 13 HR's), while of Iakopo's 33 hits, 14 have gone for extra bases (three doubles, 11 HR's).
  • Watch out for Texas with two outs in an inning. So far through 34 games, the Burnt Orange & White are batting .391 (122-for-312) with 98 two-out RBIs (39% of the team's total RBIs have come with two outs this season). Mary Iakopo and Shannon Rhodes currently lead the squad with 14 two-out RBIs each, while 11 different Longhorns have recorded at least three two-out RBIs.
  • Texas has been strong this season with runners in scoring position, hitting .379 (128-for-338) in such instances.  Two-time All-American Janae Jefferson (14-31, .452) and sophomore Colleen Sullivan (14-31, .452) both lead the team with 14 hits, while seven different Longhorns have at least 10 hits with RISP.
  • Texas is 18-1 when scoring in the first inning this season. Under the guidance of head coach Mike White, the Longhorns are an impressive 44-5 since the start of the 2019 campaign when scoring in the opening frame.
  • The Longhorns have out-hit 27 of their 34 opponents in 2021. Since the arrival of head coach Mike White prior to the 2019 campaign, Texas is an impressive 88-11 when out-hitting an opponent.
