Bettendorf, Iowa, April 3, 2021 - The Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team picked up its fourth-straight win with an 8-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus Saturday afternoon.
Playing a neutral site matchup, the Bears (4-1) swept a hard-fought doubles competition before dropping just one singles match to the Gusties (7-2) via a retirement.
Grad student Scott Altmeyer and sophomore Abhi Ramireddy won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles while seniors Daniel Li and Benjamin van der Sman won 8-5 at No. 2 and senior Ethan Hillis and first year Gaurav Singh won 8-3 at No. 3. Altmeyer and Ramireddy moved to 5-0 on the season while Li and van der Sman improved to 3-1 and Hillis and Singh improved to 2-0.
Hillis (5-0) and Altmeyer (5-0) both remain undefeated in singles play after Hillis won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 and Altmeyer won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Van der Sman and Li both won 6-1, 6-1 at Nos. 3 and 4 singles respectively while Singh won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6. Ramireddy retired at the No. 5 spot to account for WashU's only loss. Van der Sman and Li both improved to 3-1 in singles play for the season while Singh moved to 2-1 and Ramireddy fell to 2-2.
WashU will host three home matches next week at the Tao Tennis Center as the Bears welcome Lindenwood for a 4 p.m. match on Tuesday, April 6, Missouri-St. Louis for a 4 p.m. match on Thursday, April 8, and Principia for a 4 p.m. match on Friday, April 9.
