TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball earned the 8-6 win over Texas A&M Friday night at Rhoads Stadium, holding off a seventh-inning rally by the Aggies to clinch the weekend series.

Alabama (28-4, 8-3 SEC) fell behind early after a two-run home run from Shaylee Ackerman gave Texas A&M (25-7, 4-4 SEC) the lead in the top of the first. The Crimson Tide responded with a run in the next half-inning before scoring three in the bottom of the second to take a 4-2 lead. A pair of two-run singles in the bottom of the fourth increased Alabama's lead to 8-2 and the Tide had a chance to put it away in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases but no runs scored.

The Aggies got a run back in the top of the sixth on a solo shot from Ackerman and threatened in the top of the seventh, scoring two before Lexi Kilfoyl entered in the save situation needing just one out. Another Aggie run cut the lead to two before Kilfoyl ended the game with a strikeout, winning 8-6.

The top three in the Tide order went a combined 7-for-9 with four runs scored and six RBIs, including a 3-for-3 day from Alexis Mack and two-hit performances from KB Sides and Bailey Hemphill. Hemphill's two RBIs push her career total to 215, tying Kaila Hunt for second all-time at Alabama, and her two walks improve her career total to 202, closing in on Auburn's Kasey Cooper for third in SEC history with 212. Kilfoyl went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, her second multi-hit game in her last six appearances, earning a hit in four of those six.

Montana Fouts (11-2) earned the win in the circle, fanning 13 batters over 6.2 innings pitched, while Kilfoyl earned the one-out save, her first of the season.

FROM HEAD COACH PATRICK MURPHY

"This was a normal nail-biter SEC softball game with two really good teams going after it. Montana did a great job limiting the damage in the first inning and allowed us to score. We could have put them away in the fifth inning but failed to get the key hit there. No one is going to roll over in the SEC, so you have to finish the other team off and that last out is always the hardest to get."
