POTSDAM, N.Y. - Strong performances from juniors Keaton McCann and Brian Davis and senior Hayden Frey helped the #8 Union College men's lacrosse team to a 16-10 win over Clarkson University in Liberty League play at Hantz Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Dutchmen (4-1, 3-1 Liberty League) had eight goals in each half, with McCann leading all players with six total points on four goals and two assists. Frey and Davis both added five-point afternoons, with Frey scoring three times with two assists and Davis chipping in a goal and four assists.

Goals from Clarkson's Pierce Currie and Billy Bergan helped the Golden Knights get an early 2-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game; however, the rest of the quarter was all Union, with the Dutchmen scoring five straight goals. Junior Jack Donahue scored the first Union goal, followed by senior Kieran McGovern with the game-tying goal 2:09 later. After more than five minutes of scoreless action, the quarter ended with a strong offensive push from Union, with Frey scoring one goal that was assisted by McCann, and Burnes scoring another two in the final minute of play to put Union up 5-2.

The second quarter started off strong for Union with Davis getting his first goal of the game, but Clarkson followed soon with a goal from Bryan Penney. The rest of the quarter was relatively slow offensively with Union scoring two goals from Flood and first-year Peter Kip on the way to an 8-4 halftime lead.

Clarkson attempted to make a comeback in the third quarter by scoring four goals, with two from Bergan, and one each from Currie and Penney. This was not enough to stop the Dutchmen though, as the team was able to score another three goals this quarter, as Burnes, McCann and McGovern all found the net to keep Union up 11-8.

After Clarkson scored on the first possession of the fourth quarter, McCann scored on Union's next possession and then got the next goal as well to stem the tide. The Golden Knights got one goal back to get back within three before back-to-back goals from Frey gave Union a comfortable cushion the rest of the way.

The goalies for each team also had strong performances. Union first-year Dan Donahue had 11 key saves on 21 shots on goal, and Kevin Dyckman had 12 saves on 28 shots on goal for Clarkson.

Union will return to action on Wednesday with a newly scheduled conference game at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Troy.
