- Punchline Monday at Axelrad Beer Garden | Monday, March 8 | No Cover – Grab a cold one and spread out at the outdoor beer garden in Historic Third Ward, where you’ll laugh yourself silly to stand-up sets from local talent in this weekly comedy series hosted by Jeff Joe. 8pm.
- SPA presents Art Heist: A True Crime Walking Experience in Downtown | Tuesday, March 9 to Sunday, March 14 – Crack the case of history’s biggest art heist during this 90-minute outdoor, family-friendly and socially distanced walking theater experience in Downtown, where you’ll try to piece together clues from interesting characters you meet along the way. Event ends on Sunday, March 28. Limited to no more than thirty attendees per session, with start times staggered every half hour. $39.50 to $44.50 per person. Showtimes vary.
- Shinyribs in Concert at The Heights Theater | Thursday, March 11 and Friday, March 12 – Tap your toes to the swamp-pop-soul supergroup Shinyribs, when they bring their brand of Gulf Coast roots music to The Heights’ stage for four socially distanced shows. Tickets start at $24 to $384.6pm and 8:45pm both nights.
- ROCO Connections: Journey to America Online Concert on Facebook and YouTube | Starts Thursday, March 11 | FREE | Virtual – Witness the world premiere of Afghan composer Milad Yousufi’s latest piece as ROCO concludes their 2020-21 Connections series. The piece consists of five short movements that make use of narration, describing Yousufi’s journey from his dramatic birth story in Kabul to becoming a refugee in New York City. Viewable on ROCO’s Facebook and YouTube, as well as their website. Premieres at 7pm and will remain viewable online after it debuts.
- Comedian Tim Dillon at Houston Improv | Thursday, March 11 to Saturday, March 13 – Prepare yourself to crack up at the in-your-face observations of writer, actor and podcast host Tim Dillon, who was deemed New York’s Funniest Comedian at the 2016 Carolines NY Comedy Festival. He’ll be in town for five socially distanced stand-up sets. $54 for two people; $108 for four people; $162 for two people; preferred tables start at $74 for two people. Showtimes vary.
- Opening of Time No Longer by Anri Sala at Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern | Friday, March 12 – Get a first glimpse at Buffalo Bayou Park’s third commissioned installation, Time No Longer by Anri Sala. Viewable in half hour segments, visitors are treated to an other-worldly immersive film and sound experience within the city’s former subterranean water reservoir. On view through Sunday, December 12, 2021. $12. 10am to 6pm.
- 13th Anniversary at Southern Star Brewing Company in Conroe | Saturday, March 13 | FREE – Celebrate 13 years of tasty local beer when Southern Star Brewing Company commemorates their anniversary with tasty food truck fare from Tacos in Low Places and live music from Folk Family Revival, Winston Cook and The Homebrewed Brass Ensemble. Noon to 10pm.
- Underbelly Hospitality presents Chris Shepherd’s Cookbook Club: Pull Up a Chair Virtual Class | Saturday, March 13 – Hear from Chef Chris Shepherd in the fourth installation of his Cookbook Club series, when he’s joined by Saved By The Bell and 90210 actress, Tiffani Thiessen, who will discuss her latest cookbook, Pull Up a Chair: Recipes from My Family to Yours. Kits include all ingredients to cook along the live class, and a copy of the book. $150; feeds two people. 6pm to 8pm.
- Houston Rockets vs. Boston Celtics at Toyota Center | Sunday, March 14 – NBA All-Stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown lead the Boston Celtics to Downtown Houston to take on the Rockets. Tickets range from $25 to over $310 but you may find better or cheaper seats on the TicketNetwork marketplace. This game is also broadcast on AT&T SportsNet-SW. 7pm.
Social Distancing & COVID-19
As we enter into the vaccination phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, medical experts still advise that we have a way to go before we achieve herd immunity and can safely resume pre-pandemic activities. In the meantime, you can remain vigilant in protecting yourself against the coronavirus by continuing to wear face masks when in public spaces, practice social distancing of at least six feet, limit your touching of surfaces, and frequently use hand sanitizer or soap and water to keep your hands clean.
While the Governor of Texas has lifted mandatory mask orders and capacity limits, most businesses are still requiring face masks to enter and enforcing reduced capacity. Familiarize with your destination’s policies ahead of time and please respect their public safety precautions.
