The ‘Noles are on the road this weekend as they face #8 Duke and #1 UNC. While these matchups will be a challenge, head coach Jen Hyde and redshirt-sophomore Petra Hule feel really positive about the team’s overall chances.

The tennis team has been preparing for matches like this all season, but especially this week.

“We’ve had really intense practices this week, very intentional and specific. We make sure these women are focused with a good mindset going into the weekend”, said coach Hyde. She mentioned how Wednesday was one of the best practices they’ve had so far, using that intensity to better their game.

Hule reiterated just how great these practices have been and said, “We are fine-tuning things that we need to work on individually and as a team, and overall just taking care of our bodies, mentally and physically as we head into the weekend.”

Florida State already has ranked wins this season against Florida, Georgia Tech, and NC State. Coach Hyde stated that “This season’s schedule was by design. We wanted those tough matches against strong teams. We haven’t really had any easy matches so far, but that helps us improve.”

Hule noted how these tough wins do boost the team’s confidence, but it more so shows them what they are capable of. She said, “Knowing we’re up against good teams does add pressure to the situation, but when we win, we learn that we can step up to the plate when needed.”

This weekend is a bit different than those past ranked wins, as it is not on FSU’s home court. And while Hyde mentions how great the home wins have been and how grateful they are for the support shown from the community, the team is excited to travel and have a sense of normalcy during this time.

“We’re excited for this opportunity, road games are always great, and this kind of competition is just the cherry on top” Hyde said.

“The team loves away games because it adds a bit of excitement to the week,” said Hule. “The vibes get a bit more intense and we work together even more because we are our only supporters when we’re not at home.”

And with this level of talent on the courts, Hyde said “Every player is going to be a key this weekend.” She added that not one player or spot on the court is more important than another. “We need a complete team effort because it takes the entire team to be successful.”

Looking ahead and at the rest of the season, Hule is pumped for what’s to come. She states, “We’re just getting started, we’re feeling good and confident, and we’re excited to continue the growth of this team.”

Be sure to keep up with Florida State women’s tennis as they go head to head with Duke and UNC, back-to-back, Saturday and Sunday.
