CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Creighton softball team closed its stay at the Saluki Invitational with an 8-2 win against UIC on Sunday morning.

The Bluejays ended the weekend with a 4-1 record and evened their overall record to 4-4.

Creighton led off the game with a pair of runs in the opening half inning. Kiara MIlls drove in the first run of the game with a single and an error that allowed Kailey Wilson to score all the way from first base. Sam Alm followed Mills with an RBI single to left field to drive in the second Bluejay run.

UIC countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first with two RBI singles.

Neither team scored in the second inning before Creighton pulled ahead for good in the third.

Ashley Cantu started the third inning with a single before Cayla Nielsen replaced Cantu at first base after a fielder's choice.

Wilson delivered the go-ahead blast with a two-run homer to right field, her third home run of the weekend, to give the Bluejays a 4-2 lead. The sophomore designated player ended the weekend hitting .474 (9-for-19) with a double, eight RBIs and two game-winning home runs.

The Bluejays added to their advantage with single runs in the fourth and fifth frames. Cantu recorded her third hit of the game and drove in Saren Croker for the fifth Bluejay run during the fourth, while Mills tallied an RBI double in the fifth to send home pinch-runner Jacey Sawyer.

The Flames threatened to cut into Creighton's lead in the sixth with runners at second and third with only one out in the sixth but Parker Boyd induced a pop up and ground out to end the inning without allowing a run.

The Bluejays scored their final two runs of the weekend in the top of the seventh. Madeline Vejvoda tallied pinch-hit a RBI double and Alm drove in Vejvoda with an RBI single.

Creighton ended the game with a season-high 13 hits, led by Cantu going 4-for-4. Wilson went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, while Mills and Alm each had two hits and two RBIs.

The Bluejays ended the weekend with a .361 team batting average and posted at least 10 hits in four out of five games.

Boyd recorded her third win in the circle for the Bluejays after pitching four innings of relief. She recorded five strikeouts to one walk and allowed only two hits. The Lehigh transfer posted a 2.10 ERA and recorded 14 strikeouts during 16 2/3 innings at the Saluki Invitational.

Creighton returns to the field next weekend at Providence for the start of BIG EAST play. The Bluejays and Friars will play a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday at noon Central.
