DEL RIO, Texas – Update:
Eight undocumented persons are dead and the driver and a child passenger of another vehicle are in the hospital after a fatal crash in Val Verde County.
According to the Department of Public Safety, the fatal crash happened at 1:26 p.m. and nearly 30 miles north of Del Rio.
Officials say that DPS troopers were chasing a red pickup truck on US 277 when it collided with a white Ford F-150.
“Due to injuries sustained, eight undocumented passengers from the Dodge pickup were pronounced deceased on scene,” The Department of Public Safety told KSAT. “The driver and a child passenger from the Ford pickup and one undocumented passenger from the Dodge pickup were transported to a hospital in San Antonio and are in stable condition.”
The driver from the Dodge pickup, after the collision, ran away from the scene, but was arrested after the collision.

Officials said the fatal crash happened on Highway 277 just north of U.S. 377.
DPS officials said a trooper was in pursuit of a red Dodge Ram pickup truck when the truck collided head-on with a white Ford F-150. All eight of the passengers in the Dodge pickup died. No information was available on whether anyone in the Ford pickup was hurt.
Officials said the driver of the Dodge pickup ran from the scene, but was eventually arrested.
