HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (3/21/21) – The #8 Kean University softball team tallied 22 runs and remained unbeaten with a doubleheader sweep of Centenary University on Sunday afternoon.

Kean 14, Centenary 0 (5 Inn.)
Taryn DiGiacomo improved to 2-0 in the circle and recorded her 40th career victory in a one-hit shutout of the Cyclones (0-1) in the opener. DiGiacomo struck out nine batters in five innings of work as the senior extended her scoreless streak to 10 innings and moves into fifth place all-time on the career wins' list.

Kean collected 14 runs on 14 hits in the victory. It's the first time since a 22-1 victory over NJCU on April 2nd, 2019 that the Cougars (3-0) have scored at least 14 runs in a contest.

Jenn Majorczak went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI's and a run scored, while Paige Metz finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Majorczak just missed hitting for the cycle in the contest.

Maddie Carlson and Gianna Pickens both went 1-for-2 with two RBI's, while Julie Raba, Courtney Sherwood, Gabriella Fredette and Melody Caces all recorded at least a hit and an RBI.

Kean posted 10 runs over the first two innings, which were highlighted by a two-RBI triple by Majorczak in the first and a two-RBI triple by Pickens in the second.

Kean 8, Centenary 4
Carlson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while both Raba and Skylar Hengeveld finished 1-for-3 with two RBI's as the Cougars (4-0) battled back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Cyclones (0-2) in the nightcap.

Kean trailed 2-1 entering the top of the fourth and the Cougars regained the lead at 5-2 with four runs on three hits. Sarah Zengel reached on an error and Nicole Vassallo singled to start things off. Carlson tied the game at 2-2 as pinch runner Julia Stasil was driven home by the senior. A second fielding error allowed Maria Bonfanti to get on base, while Vassallo scored to give the Cougars their first lead of the contest.

After Metz walked, Kean finished their scoring for the inning with Raba driving in both Carlson and Bonfanti for the 5-2 lead.

The Cougars added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings with Pickens smacking her second homerun of the season to left center and Hengeveld blasting her first, to the same spot as Pickens, for an 8-2 advantage.

Centenary got back two runs on the last play of the game with a two-RBI single down the right field line.

Karly Messina earned her first career decision in the circle with six strikeouts in the complete game victory.

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 23rd, hosting the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
