The last time a competitive game was played on this field, Noelle Hee’s clutch pinch-hit homer in the sixth backed a two-hit shutout from Gabbie Plain as Washington defeated Kentucky 5-0 to advance to the Women’s College World Series.
It’s been a while.
After 657 days and 47 straight games away from home in what has to be one of the longest stretches by any team in NCAA history, 8th-ranked Washington softball is finally home, opening an eight-game homestand by hosting a small tournament vs Seattle U and Portland State in their final week of non-conference play.
After that win over Kentucky secured UW’s third straight WCWS trip, UW has gone:
- Four games in the 2019 WCWS in Oklahoma City, going 2-2 to finish as a national semifinalist.
- 23-2 through the first five weeks of the 2020 season, which was cancelled to due the COVID-19 pandemic exactly one year ago today, just one day before the then-2nd-ranked Huskies were set to play their home opener against Utah.
- 16-2 in four weeks so far in 2021 despite a fairly shaky start.
No tickets are available for the general public due to COVID-19 protocols, just a handful through a guest list by players and coaches.
