GREENVILLE, N.C. – An undefeated home record will be put to the test as the ECU lacrosse team hosts Duke on Sunday afternoon in Johnson Stadium.

ECU (2-2) had one of its most dominant performances on Wednesday afternoon, beating Campbell 20-8 thanks to a combined 11 points from seniors Megan Pallozzi and Ally Stanton. Pallozzi rang up five goals for the second time this season, and she ranks second in the country in goals with 13 and second in the NCAA in points with 16. Pallozzi is not the only Pirate in the top-five in the country, as Megan Tryniski ranks fifth in assists with seven while Ashley Vernon leads the country in saves, having made 33 stops so far.

Pallozzi and Tryniski lead the team with 16 and 11 points respectively. Nicole LeGar has a team-high 19 draw controls while Payton Barr (13) and Frances Kimel (11) have both reached double-figures in that category. Defensively, a pair of rookies in Courtney Frank and Alexandra Giacalone lead the team in caused turnovers, as Frank has forced five while Giacalone has caused four. The Pirate defense has been led by Sam Caputo, Liz Blumthal and Jordyn Cox, who have combined for eight caused turnovers and 14 ground balls as well as starting all four games.

Duke (3-0) comes into the weekend ranked No. 8 in the country. The Blue Devils will be trying to mark their territory as the best team in North Carolina as they take on No. 1 North Carolina on Friday night before battling the Pirates on Sunday. Duke already has a win over a ranked team this season, having beaten No. 18 Virginia Tech 12-8. A major reason for Duke's success has been Maddie Jenner dominating the draw circle, as Jenner ranks fourth in the country in draw controls, averaging 10 per game. Gabby Rosenzweig is in the top-five in the country in both assists (7) and points (13), leading five Blue Devils who have at leas eight points already.

It will be the fourth consecutive season that ECU has battled Duke, with the Blue Devils winning the first three matchups. Last season, ECU fell in Durham 16-6 in the final game before the Covid-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the remainder of the season. Sunday's game will be the second meeting between Kimel and her mom, Kerstin Kimel, who is the only head coach in Duke's history. The Duke connections continue as ECU head coach Amanda Moore was an assistant under the elder Kimel at Duke while Caputo's dad, Ron Caputo, is an assistant coach for the top-ranked Duke men's lacrosse team.

Sunday's contest will get started at 1 p.m., inside Johnson Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Dennis Cox and Kelci O'Donnell on the call.
