Baylor's inside-out attack of NaLyssa Smith and DiJonai Carrington scored 17 points apiece as the eighth-ranked Lady Bears blew out Kansas, 83-50, Thursday night to win their fifth in a row.
Smith recorded her seventh double-double in the last eight games, adding 10 rebounds and two steals, while Moon Ursin had 16 points and nine boards. Baylor improves to 13-2 overall and 8-1 in the Big 12, a half-game ahead of No. 21/24 West Virginia (13-2, 8-2).
Holly Kersgieter poured in a game-high 21 points, hitting 3-of-5 from outside the arc, but was the only double-figure scorer for the Jayhawks (6-9, 2-7). Kansas has dropped seven of its last eight games since a COVID pause in January.
Outscored 20-17 in the second quarter, Baylor led by just 10 at halftime, 38-28. But, the Lady Bears had a dominant third quarter and outscored the Jayhawks, 45-22, the rest of the way.
With Queen Egbo coming a rebound shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds, Baylor crushed Kansas on the boards, 56-25, and finished with a 21-1 edge in second-chance points and 36-12 in the paint.
The Lady Bears go on the road for their next two, facing Kansas State (5-10, 0-8) at 1 p.m. Sunday in Manhattan and Texas Tech (9-9, 4-8) at 6 p.m. next Wednesday in Lubbock.
