Tallahassee, FL
 – Facing a 3-0 deficit, the eighth-ranked Seminoles women’s tennis team fought back to even the game with No. 7 Georgia at 3-3, with the winner coming down to court one and a battle between two Top 27 players. FSU’s Giulia Pairone, ranked 27th, won a tie-breaker in set two to force the game to a third set but was unable to take down No. 16 Katrina Jokic falling 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.

Traveling to No. 7 Georgia and facing a higher-ranked opponent on courts 1-4 in singles was always going to be a tall task for the eighth-ranked FSU women’s tennis team Sunday. The Bulldogs (2-1) held serve in three of the four matches where they had a rankings advantage and staved off the upset-minded Seminoles.

The loss ended FSU’s three-game winning streak versus Top 25 competition and moved the Seminoles to 7-4 in their last 11 games versus ranked opponents after defeating No. 21 Florida earlier this week.

The Seminoles were unable to pull an upset in singles on courts one, two or three. No. 92 Nandini Das fell to No. 31 Lea Ma (4-6, 2-6). Petra Hule dropped her match against the nation’s 60th-ranked singles player (0-6, 1-6) and Pairone fell in the final match of the day on court one.

Despite falling behind 3-0, the Seminoles secured wins on court four, five and six to even the match at 3-3. Emmanuelle Salas’ upset of No. 73 Morgan Coppoc 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 started the run for FSU. Victoria Allen, ranked No. 106, secured her third win in a dual with a 6-2, 6-2 win and Andrea Garcia continued to roll through the 2021 season, moving to 6-0 in 2021 and 4-0 in duals with her 7-5, 6-0 victory.

The doubles point went down to the final court just as it did in singles. Das and Garcia got FSU off to a good start finishing first on court three with a 6-3 win. The Seminoles’ seventh-ranked pair of Allen and Hule fell 6-4, leaving the point to court two where No. 50 Pairone and Salas took the 37th-ranked team from Georgia to the wire before losing 7-5 with the point going to Georgia.

Florida State will have one more weekend of games before opening conference play. Next weekend the Seminoles will host UNF Friday at 4:00 p.m. Then, on Sunday, FAU and FAMU will visit the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center for matches scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
