N.J. weather: Early snowfall totals across the state top 8 inches, as winter storm continues to rage - NJ.com

What’s shaping up to be one of the biggest snowstorms to hit New Jersey in several years has a long way to go before it fizzles out, and it already has dropped as much as 8 to 9 inches of snow on some parts of the state.

Here’s a look at preliminary snowfall totals reported by the National Weather Service’s regional forecast offices in New Jersey and New York regional office, along with the Community Cooperative Rain, Hail & Snow Network, as of 8 a.m. Monday.

The slow-moving winter storm started dropping light snow early Sunday afternoon, and it became heavier and steadier Sunday night, quickly accumulating on streets, trees and rooftops.

So far, the highest snow totals have been reported in Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset and Union counties, with several towns reporting 8 inches. The highest measurements reported across the state so far are 9.5 inches in the Port Reading section of Woodbridge, 9.1 inches reported in Westfield and 9.0 inches in the town of Clinton.

(Note: Some of the snow totals below were from measurements that were taken late Sunday night, but new totals will be coming in during the next few hours. Additional updates will be posted Monday afternoon.)
