Coronavirus in Oregon: State reports 764 new cases, 8 new deaths - OregonLive

asianpostmedia.blogspot.com

The Oregon Health Authority on Wednesday reported 764 new confirmed or presumptive coronavirus cases and 8 more fatalities.

The agency said the case count was lower than expected because of a server outage that affected the state’s database. The count was expected to return to normal by Thursday, the state said.

After three weeks of declining case counts, that number rose by 17% for the week ending Sunday, though reported deaths dropped by 13 from the previous week, a 15% decrease. Still, December was by far the deadliest month of the pandemic in Oregon with nearly 470 fatalities.

The state also reported that more than 2,800 people had received their first dose of the vaccine, still well below the 12,000 doses per day Gov. Kate Brown called for by the end of next week.

As of Wednesday, more than 60,000 doses had been administered, but nearly 75% of the doses delivered to the state, some 225,000, had yet to make it into the arms of Oregonians.

Where the new cases are by county: Baker (11), Benton (8), Clackamas (79), Clatsop (15), Columbia (8), Coos (13), Crook (4), Curry (1), Deschutes (10), Douglas (10), Gilliam (2), Grant (1), Harney (2), Hood River (6), Jackson (44), Jefferson (12), Josephine (11), Klamath (31), Lake (5), Lane (49), Lincoln (3), Linn (19), Malheur (17), Marion (134), Morrow (2), Multnomah (114), Polk (14), Sherman (1), Tillamook (4), Umatilla (50), Union (4), Wallowa (2), Wasco (7), Washington (27) and Yamhill (44).

New deaths: Oregon’s 1,5551st death linked to coronavirus is an 87-year-old Washington County woman who tested positive Dec. 9 and died Jan. 3 at Hillsboro Medical Center.

The 1,552nd fatality is a 78-year-old Washington County man who tested positive Dec. 20 and died Jan. 4 at Oregon Health & Science University.

Oregon’s 1,553rd death is an 86-year-old Multnomah County man who tested positive Dec. 29 and died Jan. 5 at Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center.

The 1,554th fatality is a 53-year-old Josephine County man who tested positive Dec. 10 and died Jan. 5 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.

Oregon’s 1,555th death is a 69-year-old Josephine County man who tested positive Dec. 27 and died Jan. 4 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.

The 1,556th fatality is a 64-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive Dec. 16 and died Jan. 3 at Asante Rogue Valley Medical Center.

The 1,557th fatality is a 60-year-old Douglas County man who tested positive Nov. 11 and died Jan. 3 at Providence Portland Medical Center.

The 1,558th fatality is a 95-year-old Crook County woman who tested positive Dec. 28 and died Jan. 1 at her residence.

Each person had underlying health conditions.

The prevalence of infections: Due to the server outage, the state was unable to report on Wednesday how many new positive tests were returned and how many total tests were performed.

Who got infected: New confirmed or presumed infections grew among the following age groups: 0-9 (26); 10-19 (63); 20-29 (136); 30-39 (153); 40-49 (124); 50-59 (93); 60-69 (63); 70-79 (40); 80 and older (29).

Who’s in the hospital: The state reported 480 Oregonians with confirmed coronavirus infections were currently in the hospital Wednesday, 14 fewer than Tuesday. Of those, 120 coronavirus patients were in intensive care units, 13 more than Tuesday.

Vaccines administered: Oregon has administered 61,671 doses out of 225,600 received, or 27% of its supply. Nearly 600 of those doses were second shots, completing the full inoculation schedule.

Since it began: Oregon has reported 120,223 confirmed or presumed infections and 1,558 deaths, among the lowest totals in the nation. The number of lab reports from tests was unavailable due to the server outage.
