NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – Miami-Dade Police are now confirming that a total of 8 people were hit by bullets when 2 people walked up to a crowd that was at basketball courts in Little River Park and began shooting.

Police said the scene began after 7 p.m. Sunday when the pair walked up to a crowd before pulling out guns, opening fire, then running away. Shell casings from the bullets could be seen lining the streets as detectives continued to comb the area near Northwest 24th Avenue and 105th Street.

6 adults and 2 juveniles were hit in the midst of the chaos. One of those injured was a 16-year-old who was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma for treatment.

The other 7 were transported to JMH by fire rescue. At last check, 6 of the victims were in critical condition, while 2 were reportedly stable. Detectives said it is too soon to pinpoint a motive.

“If anyone has any information regarding the identity or the whereabouts of these individuals that committed this senseless crime where there were adults, children, families, trying to share and trying to have a good time at a park on a Sunday before returning to school on Monday, please call with any information,” said Miami-Dade Police Detective Angel Rodriguez said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-8577.

Miami-Dade Police Department Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez posted a Tweet Sunday night that said his officers were at the scene of “another tragic shooting involving juveniles.”
