Eight people, including a child believed to be 9 years old, were hit or wounded by debris after a SUV crashed through the front of a Fiesta Mart in Houston, police said.

The individuals, whose injuries and conditions were not immediately available, were transported to local hospitals after the driver crashed into the store at 9420 Cullen Blvd., according to Houston police.

The driver, whose identity was not released, was detained by authorities after displaying signs of impairment, KHOU-TV reported.

The person who suffered the most significant injury, to the head, was expected to survive, as was everyone else taken to hospitals.

The incident remains under investigation.
