No. 8 Michigan State Plays at No. 6 Duke in Champions Classic Tuesday Night - Michigan State Athletics

East Lansing, Mich. – The No. 8-ranked Michigan State men's basketball team hits the road for the first time season, playing No. 6 Duke in the State Farm Champions Classic at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Tuesday, Dec. 1 (7:30 p.m.). The Champions Classic will be played in separate venues this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Kentucky playing Kansas in Indianapolis.

The Spartans, ranked No. 8 in the Associated Press Preseason poll, are 3-5 all-time in the Champions Classic, including an 0-3 mark against Duke.

The game will air live on ESPN, with Sean McDonough and Jay Bilas calling all of the action.  The TCF Bank Spartan Media Network radio call can be heard on one of 38 affiliates and on the web at MSUSpartans.com, with Will Tieman handling the play-by-play and Matt Steigenga serving as the color analyst.  The game can also be heard on Sirius 113, XM 195 and Internet 957.

Michigan State enters the game with a 2-0 record following an 80-70 win over Notre Dame on Saturday night.  Duke is 1-0 after an 81-71 win over Coppin State on Saturday

  • Michigan State used a 26-0 run over the last five-plus minutes of the first half and the opening five minutes of the second half and cruised to an 80-70 win over Notre Dame in a men's basketball game at the Breslin Center Saturday night.
  • Redshirt junior forward Joey Hauser (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point) had the first double-double of his career with 10 points and a career-high 16 rebounds (adding four assists) to lead the Spartans, as two other players scored in double figures and 11 players had at least two points.
  • Junior forward Aaron Henry (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a career-high four blocks, while sophomore guard Rocket Watts (Detroit, Mich./SPIRE Academy) added 13 points, tied his career high with six assists and had two rebounds.

  • This is the 17th all-time meeting between Michigan State and Duke ... Duke leads the all-time series, 13-3.
  • The Blue Devils posted an 87-75 win last year at the Breslin Center in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

  • Led by Henry, a preseason All-Big Ten selection who was third on the team in scoring (10.0 ppg), rebounds (4.6 rpg), assists (2.8 apg) and minutes played (29.0), the Spartans return six other players who started a combined 63 games last year and five who played at least 10 minutes per game.
  • Among those players are Watts (16 starts), Brown (16 starts), sophomore forward Malik Hall (Aurora, Ill./Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]) (9 starts), junior forward Marcus Bingham Jr. (Grand Rapids, Mich./GR Catholic) (16 starts), junior forward Thomas Kithier (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) (5) and Loyer (1 start).
  • In addition, MSU welcomes back graduate guard Joshua Langford (Huntsville, Ala./Madison Academy), who has missed most of the last two seasons with foot injuries, and Hauser, a transfer from Marquette who averaged 9.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 29.2 minutes as a freshman ... Langford was averaging 15.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists over the first 13 games of the 2018-19 season.
