SAGINAW, MI — Police are investigating a rash of shootings that occurred in Saginaw over the last few days that have left seven people wounded and an eighth dead.

According to Saginaw Police Detective Sgt. Matthew Gerow, the first shooting occurred about 8:42 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, at a residence in the 2700 block of Hazelwood Avenue. A 15-year-old girl suffered at least one gunshot wound.

The second shooting took place 24 hours later at 1527 Durand St. and resulted in the death of Marquavious M. Collins, 20. Collins was found in the residence’s driveway and was taken to an area hospital, where he died, police have said.

The Michigan State Police are investigating Collins' homicide. As of noon on Nov. 11, MSP Lt. Lizabeth Rich said police have not arrested a suspect on charges related to Collins' death.

The city’s third shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, in the 0 block of Harmony Court. A 36-year-old male suffered at least one gunshot wound in that incident, Saginaw police stated.

Later that Saturday, at about 3:15 p.m., a 44-year-old man was shot in his back inside a business in the 2300 block of Webber St., Saginaw police said.

About 10:35 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, a 25-year-old man arrived at an area hospital and said he had been shot at the McDonald’s at 510 S. Michigan Ave. Investigators could find no evidence the shooting actually occurred there, however, and the restaurant’s employees told police they heard nothing, Gerow said.
