DURHAM, N.C. – Duke softball saw extra innings in game two of the Blue vs. Black Fall World Series, but freshman Sarah Goddard secured the Black Team's 8-5 victory with a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth.

Black jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning as junior Deja Davis hit a leadoff single, senior Rachel Crabtree walked and freshman Claire Davidson notched an RBI infield single. With two outs, graduate Raine Wilson stepped up to the plate a blasted a three-run homer off a flagpole in left field to expand her team's lead, 4-0.

Following a scoreless second frame, Black added another run in the third, scoring on a passed ball while taking a 5-0 lead.

Blue responded in the top of the fourth, tallying four runs in the inning. The team saw singles from sophomore Kamryn Jackson, freshman Julia Boyet and senior Kendyl Lange. Senior Jameson Kavel reached on a fielder's choice and advanced on a throwing error before sophomore Gisele Tapia ripped a ball over the shortstop's head for a two-run double. Tapia was brought home on an RBI triple from graduate student Dominique Salinas, cutting the Black Team's lead to 5-4.

After a couple scoreless innings, Blue looked to keep the game alive in the seventh – needing just one run to tie the ballgame. With two outs on the board, rookie Francesca Frelick homered off the light pole in left field to tie the contest at 5-5. Senior pitcher Peyton St. George entered in the bottom of the seventh and shut down the side.

In bonus innings, Blue saw a chance early with a single from Tapia and a fielder's choice from Salinas. Senior Sydney Bolan made contact and reached base on a fielder's choice, but Salinas was tagged out at second.

Although Black saw a quick bottom of the eighth, Davidson helped her team in the circle, earning two strikeouts to send Black back to the plate in the ninth. Graduate student Raine Wilson singled to left field and advanced to third on a hit to right by freshman Kelly Torres before Goddard brought them both home on a walk-off bomb for an 8-5 victory.

Davidson was credited with the win in the circle, hurling five innings in which she garnered five strikeouts. Junior Shelby Walters started the game for Blue, throwing four innings. Senior Brianna Butler was the losing pitcher for Blue, dealing six innings in which she picked up three strikeouts. St. George closed out the game for Blue, pitching 2.1 innings.

The two teams will close out the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Duke Softball Stadium.
