Number of new cases statewide fall below 1,000

(Dare County and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services)

Dare County has reported 8 new cases of COVID-19 on Sept. 28. That’s the largest number of new cases reported in a single day since there were 12 on Aug. 25. It brings the total number of cases reported by Dare County since the outset of the pandemic to 541.

Five of the new cases involve residents of Dare County while three involve non-residents. Two of the individuals are under 25 years of age, three are between 25 and 49 and three more are between 50 and 64.  All of the individuals are isolating in Dare County or in their home county, although one of the cases was a late report from the state about someone who has already recovered.

The Dare County Department of Health and Human Services also reported on Sept. 28 that one county resident who had been hospitalized with COVID-19 is now isolating at home.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) reported 868 new COVID-19 cases on Sept. 28, the fewest number in a day since Sept. 21. To date, 3,445 people have succumbed to the virus in the state and 897 are currently hospitalized.

The NCDHHS has also announced that it is easing some restrictions on nursing home visitation, permitting indoor visitation in those facilities with no COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days and in counties with a percent positive testing rate of less than 10%. That decision reflects guidance from the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Today’s statewide NC coronavirus numbers – Sept. 28

  • Reported NC cases – 208,248 (up 868 from yesterday)
  • Reported NC deaths – 3,445
  • Currently hospitalized – 897
  • Suspected COVID-19 cases hospitalized in past 24 hours – 314 (down 74 since yesterday)
  • Confirmed COVID-19 case hospitalized in past 24 hours – 92 (down 30 since yesterday)
  • Adults in ICU with COVID-19 – 271 (up 2 since yesterday)
  • Patients presumed to be recovered – 184,422
  • Reported cases in Dare, Currituck and Hyde Counties – 852 (Dare 541, Currituck 184, Hyde 127)
  • Completed tests – 2,999,853

Note: Every morning, the NC Department of Health and Human Services posts updates o number of reported cases of coronavirus. That number reflects positive results from all tests, including the NC State Laboratory of Public Health and all hospital and commercial labs. There may be other reports, from the media and elsewhere, that will include different numbers during a given day, but this is an effective way of tracking numbers from the same source on a day-to-day basis.
