Coronavirus: Leon gains 94 cases, 8 Big Bend deaths - Tallahassee Democrat

As Leon County gained 94 confirmed cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, at least eight Big Bend residents have died because of the coronavirus, the Florida Department of Health reports.

This follows a week of over 20 deaths among Big Bend residents reported by the health department.

Although Leon County's number of confirmed cases increased by 94, the state health department added 118 individual cases to the county's line list over the weekend.

Leon County's total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases stands at 5,268 as of Sunday.

Among Leon's new cases are a 2-year-old girl, a 6-year-old girl and two babies listed as "zero" years old.

People between the ages of 15 and 24 continue to make up the majority of Leon's cases of COVID-19, accounting for over 1,800 local cases, according to the health department.

In Jackson County, the health department confirmed four deaths caused by the virus among residents on Saturday. They are a 90-year-old woman, a 63-year-old man, an 88-year-old woman and an 81-year-old man.

On Sunday, the health department confirmed the death of an 80-year-old man because of COVID-19.

He is the 52nd person to die in Jackson County because of the novel coronavirus.

Separately, the state health department reports 42 residents of long-term care facilities in Jackson County have died because of the virus.

The department updates its list of deaths within these facilities weekly.

In Gadsden County, a 66-year-old woman and a 74-year-old woman have died because of the virus, the state health department reported Saturday.

Gadsden has now had 28 fatalities associated with COVID-19, according to the health department.

A recent death that affected Fort Braden School in Leon County appears not yet to be reflected in state health department data.

A 65-year-old Madison County man has died because of the virus, the health department reports. The state health department confirmed his death Sunday.

  • Jackson County has 2,015 cases out of 12,470 tests. Positivity rate: 16%
  • Jefferson County has 461 cases out of 3,118 tests. Positivity rate: 15%
  • Gadsden County has 2,029 cases out of 13,637 tests. Positivity rate: 15%
  • Madison County has 750 cases out of 5,212 tests. Positivity rate: 14%
  • Gulf County has 733 cases out of 5,069 tests. Positivity rate: 14%
  • Liberty County has 411 cases out of 3,168 tests. Positivity rate: 13%
  • Calhoun County has 503 cases out of 4,213 tests. Positivity rate: 12%
  • Franklin County has 470 cases out of 4,141 tests. Positivity rate: 11%
  • Wakulla County has 767 cases out of 8,159 tests. Positivity rate: 9%
  • Leon County has 5,268 cases out of 63,625 tests. Positivity rate: 8%
