Twitter rises to Kelly's defense after suspension - NBC Sports Washington

asianpostmedia.blogspot.com

Dodgers reliever became everyone's favorite pitcher Tuesday night when he threw at Alex Bregman and then taunted Carlos Correa after striking him out.

Well, everyone's favorite pitcher except Major League Baseball, who suspended Kelly eight games for his action during the game. Eight more games than every Astros player received for the team's sign-stealing scandal combined. In a 60-game season, an eight-game suspension is equal to a 22-game suspension in a normal 162-game campaign.

After the alarmingly harsh punishment came down, MLB Twitter came out in force to show their outrage over commissioner Rob Manfred and MLB's decision.

There are, of course, always the contrarians. In this case, MLB Network's Jon Heyman claimed Kelly deserved every part of his suspension. One of the reasons he gave made absolutely no sense, however.

Yes, Kelly was not a member of the 2017 Dodgers that lost the World Series to a team electronically stealing signs in seven games. He was a member of the 2017 Red Sox, who lost to the Astros in the ALDS that season. Houston sent the Sox home in four games and Jose Altuve, Yuli Gurriel and George Springer combined to go 24-for-49 (.489 BA) with four home runs and six RBI.

In the end, Kelly still came away victorious with a legendary Instagram post of him holding his kids, Bregman, Correa and Altuve. His message? He wanted to apologize, to absolutley nobody.

The Dodgers finished off a two-game sweep of Houston Wednesday night with a 4-2 win in extra innings. The two teams will meet again for another two-game set on September 12 and 13, where Kelly will seemingly be done with his suspension and available to pitch yet again.
