CU Boulder Chancellor Phil DiStefano announced at his University Executive Leadership Team (UELT) meeting that he has asked Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement Bob Boswell to lead the implementation of the eight immediate actions for change announced on June 18 to improve anti-racism, diversity, inclusion and equity efforts on campus. To lead this implementation and multi-department effort, the chancellor has given Boswell additional responsibility and the authority to advance CU Boulder’s actions to achieve these goals.

“In order to be successful, we must make significant progress on these eight actions for change,” DiStefano said. “Bob will promptly inform me, Provost Moore and Interim Chief Operating Officer O’Rourke of any barriers to meeting these goals. I will also take my own steps to implement culture change, including setting expectations and holding my cabinet accountable for our progress toward these goals.”

In addition to regular updates to the campus community, DiStefano requested an update from Boswell by Aug. 21, 2020, on the actions, including recommendations on when and where the campus leadership team can work to identify and prioritize the resources needed to accelerate and advance these efforts.

Boswell said he gladly accepts the new responsibilities and would act quickly on them.

“I share the chancellor’s commitment to immediate action and to the accountability for results,” Boswell said. “I will update the campus later today on next steps for the eight immediate actions and, moving ahead, will provide regular updates on our progress.”

And, Boswell continued, the work ahead will be tangible and results-driven.

“Everything we do for the remainder of the summer, throughout the academic year and beyond that, will be driven by actions, not words, and by a shared goal of accelerating the transformation of our campus culture,” Boswell said.
