Dare County has reported 8 news cases of COVID-19 on July 2, with all of those individuals between the ages of 18 and 24. That makes 24 new cases in the past two days alone, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 121 since the beginning of the outbreak.

Five of the individuals reported to have tested positive today are residents of Dare County while three are non-residents. There are four men and four women, and all of them are reported to be isolating in Dare County.

Much of the recent surge of new cases in this county is the result of infections among young people. Those younger than 25 years of age now account for nearly half (56) of the 121 total cases reported. Put another way, the number of Dare County cases involving people between 18-24 (44) is more than four times higher than the number (10) involving people 65 years of age and older. While there has only been 1 fatality to date among the cases reported in Dare County, the number of hospitalizations has inched up. There are currently 3 people hospitalized as a result of COVID-19.
