8 displaced in Saturday fire - Jefferson City News Tribune

asianpostmedia.blogspot.com

A Saturday afternoon fire in the 1200 block of East Dunklin Street displaced seven adults and one child.

Two pets died in the fire, but no humans were injured.

The Jefferson City Fire Department responded to the report of a fire at about 12:45 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and fire showing from the rear of the structure.

All occupants were evacuated, the department said.

An interior fire attack brought the fire under control with the structure sustaining moderate to heavy fire, smoke and water damage to all levels. Two deceased pets were recovered and removed by fire personnel.

The fire was determined to be accidental, starting on the first-floor deck and extending to the second floor and attic. The Jefferson City Fire Department advises using caution when disposing of smoldering materials.

The eight people who were displaced are being helped by the Red Cross.

Three engine companies, two ladder companies, two squad companies, two chief officers, and the department chaplain consisting of 26 personnel responded to the incident, along with eight JCPD officers, two Cole County EMS units, one EMS chief, and one canteen unit with the Salvation Army.
