Security Forces Under Attack in Western Afghanistan

Officials in western Afghanistan say insurgents have taken over the local government offices in a province bordering Iran.

Authorities say 15 security force members were killed or wounded in the fighting Sunday in the Anardara district in western Farah province.

In addition, a Taliban spokesman told Reuters "several military vehicles" were seized, "along with a large quantity of ammunition."

Insurgent attacks against security forces have increased recently in Farah.
