Afghan officials say that a top hotel in Kabul came under militant attack Saturday night.
A group of unknown gunmen have stormed the capital city’s Intercontinental Hotel and Afghan forces were at the scene dealing with the attack, said Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish.
Witnesses reported hearing intense gunfire from inside the building.
Local media reported suicide bombers were among the assailants and some people have been taken hostage.
The gunmen were shooting at guests, and witnesses told Afghan television channels there were a number of casualties.
Officials, however, would not confirm those reports, saying they were still gathering information.
There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the ongoing attack.
The Intercontinental Hotel was the target of a suicide assault in 2011 that killed at least 20 people.
