Chinese human rights prisoner Liu Xiaobo has died in a Chinese hospital after a high-profile battle with liver cancer. The 61-year-old writer and activist, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2010 “for his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China,” remained a lightning rod for controversy even as he neared death.
